This is it here, AFAIK the switch pushes the wooden block which is attached to the bar and mute, this lifts and lowers it.
I can take some pictures of the mute system if that would help?
What do you mean by not working tho?
Make sure it's not just rusted up.
Have you taken the plastic cover off the back to have a look? You will be able to see exactly how it works.
A photo of a properly set up one would be handy so I can see if something is missing, or in the wrong place.
I'll post a picture but it will be tomorrow as I'm at work till late.
Tbh I don't think many people even bother using them. Lol
I doubt the owner ever wanted to use it which is why it isn't working now - I'm only trying to fix it for my own amusement because I like to do little things like this even though I'm not charging for it.
It's all in bits now (and the pic above is not the actual guitar but it looks exactly like that one).
I found a useful picture
This shows what needed making a little clearer - the meeting of switch and lever (the white bit on the bottom of the switch is missing), so I can have a rummage around my bits boxes and see if I can find something to do the job.
All back together and working - I haven't finished yet so I don't know if it will actually damp the strings - but even if it's never used at least it won't rattle now it's been sorted.
