Strat wiring mods

I have an SSH strat (actually a Suhr Classic S) that I'm modding to SSS

It currently has a 500k vol pot and the tone pots are a 250k with a 0.47 for the neck and middle and a 500k with a 0.22 for the bridge tone

The neck / middle tone has a resistor to ground from the wiper lug, which I'm assuming is IRO 500k and is to halve the resistance seen by the single coil pups

So for my re-wire, Suhr have suggested 250k pots all round, removing the resistor to ground and a shared 0.47 tone cap for both tones

I'm actually thinking of keeping separate tone caps and having 0.22 on the neck / mid and 0.47 on the bridge tone

I'm wondering if I could just swap the bridge tone pot to a 250k and put another resistor to ground on it, so that both tones see 250k at the volume pot?

Would this work just as well as swapping the vol pot and doing it 'properly'?

Cheers

Baz

  • Split the bridge HB instead.  Use a push pull with a different resistor on the split coil.

Thanks @Cacofonix, but I already have a great SSH Strat and I'm looking for something different
