Talking of Explorers....Saw a video the other day of Joe Bonamassa playing an early Hamer "Sunburst" (Explorer shape with a flame top). It seems that his guitar tech collects them.

When they first appeared many years ago Hamer would place tiny adverts in the back of International Musician with a picture and not much more. When I first saw the ad my jaw hit the floor and I quickly found out that Chappells Music had one of very few in the UK and next day I got on the train for the 400 mile round trip.
What a let down, and wasted trip.
I was very disappointed with the guitar but it seems that the killer guitars are the ones with a 4 digit serial number.....says Joe.

The only thing I'm not wild about on my explorer is how, when sitting down, the top bout is right where my arm would otherwise rest (coming from a strat-superstrat background) - but honestly that is not my cup of tea at all.
