Good guitar for playing while sitting back on a bed?

What's Hot
mixolydmixolyd Frets: 826
Sometimes I just don't have the energy for sitting up to play and like to sit on my bed, back against the wall and play guitar while watching a YouTube video or whatever.

My Sheraton is handy for this in that it makes a good unplugged sound but the body is so big that it rests too high against the bed.

Anyone have a choice of body type for this kind of playing?  I guess maybe a thin line tele might be good.

A Strat seemed to work for this chap…

This can even be used as a pillow by lazy feckless guitarists.

  • That's pretty much what jaguars and jazzmasters were made for (well kind of)

    Strats work well too
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

But if you want the acoustic sound, a Casino Coupe would fit the bill.

The reduced weight would be nice but having the same shape as my Sheri the bottom would be a bit big.  An improvement to this can be to sit in a pillow so that the crossed over leg is farther off the bed.

That wouldn't be any better than a Sheraton?

Indeed but a chambered Jet like a Pro Jet or Duo Jet might be good, or one of the Anniversary junior hollow Gretches, whatever they're called.

I'm not sure why a gloss neck would make a difference in this scenario.
    I'd say strat.
It won't your technique any favours though.

Strat seems popular, and like the offsets has a front-mounted jack so you could still plug in.

This tele looks nice, and is available lefty for southpaws like me.

My technique should be ok: putting the guitar on the crossed leg and angling it up gives a setup similar to using a short guitar strap and allows the picking hand shoulder to come down.

My health makes it very difficult to sustain any kind of upright practice on the regular so this would be helpful in terms of adding minutes of practice that wouldn't be possible otherwise.

A Gretsch GT26655T Streamliner Jr is perfect for that, semi hollow and small bodied and cheap!
Tomorrow will be a good day.

I'd say a strat variant then. A chambered one if poss. Best if luck :-)
