    Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 injuries. Running is off the menu.

    I sad
    What happened?
Well, I wasn't going to bore everyone with the details ..... but 1) I have an ongoing knee problem from an injury 8 years ago, it's aching a lot right now 2) not sure if I have a dodgy hip in my old age. I did a parkrun at the weekend, quicker than my usual training pace and I noticed my hip aching whilst running (I get this on and off). Brushed it off, but did a 14k on Sunday and about 5k from home I realised that both hip and knee were very not happy indeed. Long term prospects not looking good.

Just broke my 5k PB :)

5:27 average pace previous best was 5:33 so quite a big jump.

    255k for the year now.

    Well done.
How are you picking up the pace- are you lengthening your stride or increasing your tempo?

    Go see a physio.

    Do you stretch?

2 hour bike ride on Sunday. I did a quick 25minute run yesterday, nothing special just 3K. But I'm aiming for regularity rather than distance right now.

I think back to this photo:

As well as looking like a total knob, I also look slimer. IIRC, I was down to about 78kg around then. I'm a right fat fuck right now!!

All I did was make a few tweaks to my diet, but this was 2013 when I was happy and much less likely to top meself!

    - Sushi for lunch most days
    - Replace chocolate for popcorn
    - Drink a little less
    - Run 2km to 4km, 3 to 4 times a week (not long distances!)
    - Walk from Moorgate to the office in Bermondsey most days

That was over a summer and I didn't find it difficult. Finding losing weight a fucking slog right now, and I can't resist sugar and booze! :(

Get an appraisal by a physio that knows running.  Weak hips are quite common in runners and often overloads other areas to compensate. A few, correct exercises (like glute bridges, clams, single leg squats etc) can make a big difference.

However be wary of an physio that wants lots of repeat appointments. There are some good ones out there that actually help you progress rather than being a money pit.

I wasn't consciously doing anything different but runkeeper says my average cadence was the same so I guess bigger strides.

Can we not use the word cadence?? It's an horrific term utilised by HR everywhere.

That's the word runkeeper uses so that's the word I use.

I have no concept of HR and thus no idea what it means in that context.

Good advice, I need to find a decent physio. Yeah, stretch before and after.

7 miles along the canal, on tired legs so I'm feeling pretty knackered.

  • 2.2 miles in 25 minutes.  Hmmm, a midweek slump means that I'm going to blast it on Friday.

    Don't worry about the speed.

This is why I don't like the timed couch to five k.

Better to do 5k in 35 minutes than try to speed up at this point.

I'm actually still quite happy to be running for 25 minutes. I don't think that I even ran for literally 25 seconds a week a couple of months ago. D

Saying that, I did do 5km from door to door.  So I'm kinda getting there

It's baking hot today in Austria, I really should have waited until after band practice this evening.
