Long shot I know but, genuinely looking to buy an excellent condition PRS DGT Maple Top.

Only specific - must be under 8lbs in weight ( Not being picky here but sadly moved my beloved other one due to being just too heavy for my ageing frame!).

Please drop me a private message if you have one to go.

Many thanks.

Cheers Jon. Seen that one previously but it's a standard not a Maple Top.

Whats your budget? I have one I might be tempted to sell at the right price.

  • Good luck - I was in exactly the same position -  DGT I really liked but was too heavy - it took me a long time to find a light one - not many of the ones that came to the UK seem to be under 8lbs.  Rather gallingly lighter ones are much more plentiful in the US.

I must have just got lucky with all the ones I have tried, never come across a fat fcuk. The 2 I have are both under 8lb. They are McCarty thickness though, so I guess it's possible ;)

  • Seen them as low as 7lb 3oz in the US and 7.5lbs doesn't seem too uncommon.  My old one (now sold) was 8lb 11oz.  I was looking for a lighter replacement for at least 2 years; finally got one about 7.8 lbs from Coda about 3 months ago.

I'm amazed that less than 600g was worth the change.

Any chance of pictures of both DGTs?

Happily played a Norlin Les Paul Custom throughout my 20s and what it  weighed never crossed my mind (hence I don't know but I'd guess 10lb or so).  Played 5 string bass in various bands, where 10-11 lbs is about normal.  But that was then, this is now - age does its stuff, and 8lbs really is about my upper limit for a guitar that's going to be strapped on for 2 or 3 hours.  And that extra lb makes a huge difference.

There was a "post your DGT porn" thread a couple of weeks ago :)

I bought your old DGT. Outstanding guitar and I was convinced the weight wouldn't be an issue...it became one though and I very recently and reluctantly let it go (traded locally for a Suhr lightweight Tele).

Starting my search here for a "sub 8 pounder" - could take a while!

Hi Mike should have spotted it was you!  Sorry things didn't work out with the DGT - as you say an outstanding guitar, probably the most resonant solid bodied guitar I've played.  But once I realised I would always prefer to take a lighter guitar to a rehearsal/gig there was no point in keeping it and I guess you ended up thinking the same way.

Best of luck with the hunt.  I'm sure there are lighter ones out there!

All being well now sorted with a DGT beauty! Trading a lovely Collings 290 TV and some £'s but thinking it's well worth it. Thank you Fretboard folks for the comments and help, always appreciated.
