Kemper Connection Question

Hi All

I am hoping to order the Rack Kemper on Monday.

The shop has recommended connecting to the Line Level inputs on my Focusrite Saffire 14
Interface.

Would this be correct,I also have S/PDIF.

I need to know i have the right cables before it arrives.

Thanks

Alan

    You can connect to either.

    Thanks drwiddly

They have recommended Balanced XLR to TRS 1/4 Jack.

I think i would prefer to use that way to connect, although i do have a S/PDIF
cable if that does not work.

S/PDIF has several advantages. No levels to worry about and one connection should be earth free so little chance of a hum loop and of course you keep the other analogue inputs free for other things. Do not forget however that the Kemper becomes the master clock and the AI slaves to that.

Thanks Dave Must admit I know nothing about clock slave sync to the AI. Are you saying that S/PDIF would be the better way to connect? I need to know so I can order any cables that I may need Alan

For recording into a DAW it's best to keep things in the digital domain for as long as possible - i.e. avoid any unnecessary D/A conversions. As Dave says the Kemper must be the master clock device and it samples at 44.1khz (a source of some web critique!). If you try to set your DAW to be the master clock, you'll get clicks and pops.

does the KPA have it's own USB [or firewire] audio interface??

if so, you could jack that directly into the PC / Mac and create an aggregate interface so the KPA and Saffire appear as a single audio interface..

this is what I do with the Axe and my Mackie
play every note as if it were your first

The Kemper does have a usb B port but it is just for data dumps and firmware upgrades, cannot do AI duties. Bit of a penny pinch on a £1200+ amp IMHO.

An RCA-RCA cable will be cheap as chips, get 'em all!
