Making a combo into a Head and Cab

I've been wanting a head and cab for ages, but I always seem to end up with a combo.

At the moment I have a rather excellent Puretone 1x12 but I quite like the idea of making it into a head and cab.

How much is something like that likely to set me back, and who does such things?

Zilla did a head and cab box for my ac30. It was around £350 for the pair iirc.

I used roadkill to make a headshell for my jubilee combo.  I'm pretty pleased with the result for just under £100.  Gives me the flexibilty of a head but I can put it back how it was in minutes.

Can't find a good photo of that combo but I suspect that it is of the type that will end up upside down in a sleeve if the valves are right way up.

The solution is to "hang" the chassis from the top of the head sleeve.

    Dave.

  • @geepers0677 might be the dude to talk to - he's the one who did that orange Peavey 6505 conversion back on the MR forum. The resulting amp/cab looked awesome in the flesh, too.

Good fun project. Hard though. Recovered it twice as I messed it up the first time and it was freezing in the workshop. Had spare though - the amp is now split, someone on here had the cab and the head is off on tour somewhere.

stupid question...but i've also thought about this...what is the issue if the tubes hang upside down?

Heat dissipation, but depending on the amp it may or may not be a problem.  Matchless run their tubes very hard and they all hang upside down.
