The Tourists - I Only Want To Be With You, guitar tone

What's Hot
always loved the guitar tones on The Tourists - I only Want To Be With You. Classic late 70s new wave chugging chords. Love it!

anyone recognise the unusual guitars in the video?

  • RIP Peet Coombes, lovely under harmonies complimenting Annie Lennox.

I have to admit having a bit of a swoon on to her voice on this track, especially on the whispered 'now listen honey'

  • The guitars are an Ibanez ( Artist) and Guild ( something). That might need a google...

  • The Ibanez Artist I associate with Andy Partridge of XTC.

@Paul_C love it, more great tones.

I love those late 70s/early 80s new wave guitar tones, The Jam, Boomtown Rats, Ruts, XTC, Blondie, Tourists among many others.

  • An Ibanez Artist 12string and a Guild S300. Can't see the truss road cover clearly enough in the video to id the exact model though.

I have both the LPS from the time... Is interesting listening back to some of these tracks that there are influences in the production from the likes of Lena Lovitch, Split Enz et al

Dave Stewart used a wide bodied Gretsch mostly

The Tourists were a great band, and Annie Lennox is an amazing talent as is of course Dave Stewart.  Can you believe Annie is now 62?!  I loved that jangly tone they had.  That first cover vid, IOWTBWY is just brilliant.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)
