Hope you good people can give me some guidance. The Volume pot on my Gibson SG 61 RI was a bit flakey so I decided to replace it. I was advised that I needed a CTS audio taper 500K short shaft which I bought. Once fitted, it has changed the character of the Guitar, Im guessing the taper is wrong. When I roll off the volume the taper seems to be all at the top end ie drastic volume drop between 10 and 7 and nothing below that. Great if you play with volume on 10 all the time but when rolling of during playing its a different beast and difficult to hit the right spot. I have since been told Gibson use 300k with linear taper as standard for volume and 500k audio for tone, can anyone confirm this as this seems to be a bit odd to me. Also, if if that is the case I cant seem to find any CTS 300K short shafts anywhere????
