So startwd jamming with a singer and id like to use my electric (tele) with a slightly driven sound for something different. What songs could be good? James Bay style im thinking but open to ideas etc.

Blank Space by Taylor Swift. No, dont laugh, really, I'm serious. I learned it as a joke & it's become a staple at my jam sessions. Lots of Ed Sheeran work too.

Graham Parker released an entire album of himself and his Tele. Live alone in America.

For something completely different the first Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes album (Blossom) is very sparse & is sometimes just Frank & his guitarist- who's playing a tele.

I'd try whatever music you both like & come up with arrangements that suit their voice. That's how Ed & Taylor happened for us.

Pops Staples did a lot with just voice and guitar plus John Lee Hooker, Lightning Hopkins, Muddy Waters, etc, although I appreciate it's not very contemporary...

Green Day Time of Your Life seems to tick all the boxes.  Probably some Ed Sheeran and that Mancunian lad with the tele who everyone on here hated. It'll come to me

  • Lots of reverb and/ or delay, you'll fill out the sound nicely.

Lots of Velvet Underground and Lou Reed would probably work.

Might not suit your audience though.

I was driving MrsTheWeary to her nurse reunion thing this evening and we were talking about the traffic and I suddenly went 'Jake Bugg' and had to type it in here as soon as I got back.
He seemed to be everywhere for a bit and then disappeared. I didn't mind him.

Song to the Siren. Either the Tim Buckley version, or if you look on YouTube there's a version of This Mortal Coil doing it with just singer and guitarist.

    Edit - here it is...

I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it
