I've dabbled with ss amps on and off for years, and the best I've ever achieved has been 'passable'.
I don't get the 8080 Valvestate hype, I had one for a couple of years and if you A/B it with the real thing it's not even close, it's just sort of ok in a pinch.
Amps which are their own thing, like the JC120 are different obviously.
No issues with it as an amp and absolutely nothing to worry about with volume.
Even with a 2*12 it can do clean and more than loud. And it crunches up beautifully. Tbh it does what I would call high gain too but I don't know if a purist would call it that; not my thing. But all your classic rock+ sounds: no issues.
If you get the chance, certainly try a marshall Mosfet lead 100. It's an older head and sounds the nuts - very jcm800. You can pick them up for a couple of hundred quid. Alternatively, the lead 12 is similar but lacking the sheer depth of sound imo.
I chose it over the Bandit that was also popular at the time. It was probably the Marshall badge I was after, but it did "seem" to sound better.
In fact the only issue with the sound is if you want it at bedroom levels -- it will do them but anything with the MV below 1 sounds thinner. Above 1 and you sort of go from the amp's "head voice" to "chest voice" if you see what I mean.
