I don’t particularly like the 50s TV aesthetic but the build looks high quality and while the knobs are interesting let’s not forget the multi-piece African mahogany flange that comes with it!
Is it just because a 5E3-type is easier to build and make-look-posh?
Have you used a Lazy J 20 on the edge of breakup?
Beautiful warm cleans when you pick softly, nice drive when you pick hard. Put a pedal in front if if you want to rock.
I've sold a "boutique" amp based on a Deluxe Reverb, but still have my J20.
Maybe I just need to try something really good tweedy in person, but I've never really been attracted to the overall tone
I prefer the GZ34/6L6 version that is in the J20 to the original 5Y3/6V6 5E3 circuit. It is tighter and has more headroom. The Celestion Blue also makes a difference compared with the late 50's Jensen style speakers as they can sound a bit ratty in the bottom end.
I do have a Princeton Reverb reissue I took in part ex on a guitar I sold a couple of years ago. I like that too, but if I could only have one amp it would be the J20.

I knew a Dentist who was a great Guitarist but I have never yet met a Guitarist who is particularly good at Root Canal work.
Well dental equipment is quite a bit more expensive than a guitar and I think you might have a bit of trouble finding people to practice on.
