It's also good songwriting practice, and a fascinating challenge! I must have done about 25-30 already, it's great for refining your melody chops.
Otherwise there’s Musicradar, Guitar World, Premier Guitar, and others on t’internet who regularly post inspiring articles, videos and tabs including how to break out of the pentatonic, riffs in the style of [insert guitar hero here].
Me, I suggest taking a scale or a mode, say, and playing around with that up and down the fingerboard. Select a random key of your choice, switch on some reverb* and delay* and just play something you’ve never played before. Let your fingers do the work, not your brain.
