Thought I'd start this thread for all those who, like myself,  like music that incorporates elements of soul/ jazz and fusion.I know there's quite a few jazz haters on the forum, so this thread should be the sanctuary for the others who like their grits mashed up.
Looking for the 'cool' musical stuff here. Please post up your favourites and especially share any new finds that you like.

'Share the love'

Starting with Lianne La Havas singing 'Tease Me' at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, followed by Hiatus Kaiyote performing 'Jekyll'

I had to learn Age by Lianne La Havas for a wedding...which was quite daunting as it's well out of my comfort zone, stylistically, but fortunately i was able to find some useful videos on Youtube..
As it happened, the bride (who was due to sing it) chickened out at the last minute and so I didn't play it live, but I really enjoyed the song.

What a great idea for a thread.  I simply love Lianne la Havas.

Just got myself a new female singer so my band's going a bit souly.  At our last gig 'California Soul' brought the house down.

Sadly, they won't let me do any fusion - even if I was any good at it - so I have to content myself with some fairly off-the-wall solos.
This sort of thing (Eef is a lot better than me of course)

S'funny that just sounds good and interesting to me.  No wonder my lot shake their heads when I go off on one.

I was always impressed by this performance from Jill Scott and her band on Jools.
When the music speeds up halfway through the band is seriously kicking!

One can be too far out - always had trouble with the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Ref Jekyll and that Fender Rhodes sound - think it was a combination of Yes, Jeff Beck and Donny Hathaway that set me off on the fusion trail back in the 70's

Lovin' that. I'm a sucker for a Fender Rhodes. My wife used to play one in the soul/jazz band I was in back in the 80s. It was the full 88 key sucker with the built in amp. Weighed a ton and I used to shove the keyboard on the back seat and the amp on the roof-rack of my old Dolomite.. but it was worth it  :D

To see all three of them on the same stage is really quite something.

Sometimes it's a bit too much.  I'd be happy with one at a time.

Mike Stern and John Scofield come over, and Wayne Krantz has done Europe from time to time I believe.  Mr Landau is Irish so you'd think he might do Ireland at least. Or have I missed them at some point ?

These are not new, but I think both acts never achieved the lasting success they truly deserved.

S'funny, when I went to Uni (1971) I was an 'underground music' man, only interested in Blues and Rock. I ended up as Chairman of the 'Blues & Progressive' Music Society, and in so doing became very friendly with the Chairman of 'Soul Soc' - still a mate of mine today.   He never tired of playing me his music, and although bluesrock is still my base he definitely opened my mind to other styles.

In the acid jazz style, I am a big fan of Chris Standring - he has a lot of fun with his music as this clip (and the title) shows :)
