Hope everything goes well! The bassist in one of my bands has just had a second new hip and he's rocking like a nutter again - good luck!

My old shift controller had one, he was a mess for ages afterwards. But he was a mess before, so no real change!!!! Also he didn't do what the docs/medical professionals told him to, so all the complimacations were really his fault (Ie drinking heavily, not using crutches, not doing the prescribed exercises etc)
My Aunt had 2, both went smoothly, no complications etc did what the docs/ physios told her. Ok it took a few weeks to get back to "normal" but the end result was good.

Basically, there are always patients who have the op, do sweet FA, and happen to get a satisfactory result just cos human beings are remarkably good at recovering. But...
an experienced orthopaedic physio will know how the recovery is going, will be able to tell and show the patient what to do in order to make sure everything goes well, and we all know and work with the orthopaedic surgeons so it's really easy to sort out anything that needs sorting.
