I've tuned to D standard and droppped to E to dropped D (dropped C officially) and guitar held tuning well. I am thinking of going the whole hog, and tuning to C standard. I was going to do it to either a Squier strat or pick up an Epi flying V next year and do it to that.
Flying V would have a shorter scale right?
With a heavy guage set of strings, tuning down, in theory should be ok. I tuned to D using regular guage stings, so imagine a heavier guage would be fine...?
If I had the V, I'd play mainly clean as well, just to screw with people's idea of what a V should sound like...

If you tune to D using regular strings then 11s would probably be thick enough, I'd go with 12's though
I never get tired of that clip.
Bloody love it!
