Out of the freaking lue!

What's Hot
BrioBrio Frets: 2270

You know that moment when you’re jammimg away with your 80yr old landlord and he walks back in the room with his 1961 blonde tele he’s had since new?

Oh my **** lordy!!!!!

Still not a fan of them but I felt a bit like Indiana Jones for a minute.
Last time he had it valued they said £17k. Probably three times that now.

There will be pictures over the next couple of days.

Couldn't even spell the threadtitle right let alone see the potential for that :-) . Brilliant.

    But seriously wonderful guitar.

I always wonder how the price affects the way the guitar gets treated.

Out of the lue, into the kack.
You pay for this but they give you that.

He used it every electric gig since he bought it new.

Now all he plays is at local hospices and care homes for people his age. Uses his cheap Ovation acoustic clone.

Once a year he’ll do a local pub gig with the remaining members of his band for charity but that is pretty much it.

He knows what it’s worth, but he also remembers he paid around £150 for it. A very balanced bloke.

Equivalent to approx £3,500 today, so a sizeable chunk of money (US built guitars would have been subject to heavy import duty back then).

  • Many years I played at a pub in Morecambe and the landlord there said he had a guitar but didn't really play, would I like to see?

He returned with an old Gibson Les Paul in oxblood finish.. it was in bad shape so I spent the break between sets tidying up and played Alright Now on it.. the action was unbelievably low.. I don't recall ever playing anything that low before and rarely since.

He knew it was special but didn't look after oddly.

    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

Know it well but no idea who the past landlords were though.

Finally stopped playing the beast to take a few shots.
He swears blind he bought it in '63 the same year as his 21st birthday but the serial number suggests otherwise.

    .
Think the 'F' necklplate and 3 ply scratchplate make it later....

Very nice indeed though and I'd say it was 1965-66.

Because mine is a '67 and the serial starts with 21****.

Thats my thinking. Really need to take the neck off but he says its never been off since new. Bridge pickup sounds amazing into my DT25. Neck PU is only good for rolling off treble with both switched on - IMHO obviously!

  • Nice guitar, but not worth anything even remotely like the previously estimated value. It is a latter half of the 60's tele, which differs little from a later Teles,  having had fewer changes as to the Strat from the 60's to 70's.

Agreed. Probably in the £7K range BUT he is insistant about getting it in '63 and he's no fool and it was when he turned 21. Kind of date you'd remember. I'm confused, but its not mine I just get to play it now and then. And it does sound incredible,

Still a lovely experience and a great guitar to play whatever.
