Bought this a while back. It's a 2018 model with original Yamaha hardcase and paperwork.

Body etc in excellent condition, not a mark on it, only two issues though.  Edge of the headstock took a small bump against a drawer resulting in a dent in the lacquer on the rear corner (see photos). Second issue is the pickup selector, sometimes when switching to the bridge pickup, no sound comes out and the switch has to be switched again.

Bare with me, as usual hit post before finishing the post!

How does £1200 delivered sound (or collection from near Stockport)?

The selector on one of mine does that, too! Must be a fault in the switch design. Not every time, but enough to get chewed about at a gig. Maybe we should spend a fiver and replace them with Switchcraft? GREAT guitars though, I have two. GLWTS.

The pickup switch is an issue with these (I had one with the same issue). That said, they are wonderful guitars and excellent value for money.

It sounds like at least they're consistent. :)

    Make that 4. :)

Not a major problem for me (I don't change pickup mid-song much).

How easy is the switch to change?  Leads long enough to get to it through F hole?  US switchcraft size hole?

I am looking to trade my old ES345 stereo for a mono semi.. Yamaha or Gibson but it would have to be bombproof.  These switch issues are concerning.

I had the switch issue too........if I remember correctly (8 years ago) it cost a frighteningly expensive £28 to get fixed
I expect that Covid / Brexit  etc means that would cost about £750 in today's money !

If looking to fix the switch, some sewing string, a towel, a quiet afternoon, can of beer some intimacy with a soldering iron (or maybe even just some contact cleaner) and it’s sorted.

Beautiful guitar, the SA-2200 is one of the easiest playing instruments I’ve ever had, very versatile with the coil splits and superb sounding pickups. The quality of build and attention to detail that the luthiers at yamaha put into it is admirable. Good luck with the sale

Another SA 2200 admirer here. I must be lucky as have never had an issue with the switch ... Will add that the neck is one of the most playable I've ever had - slim, fast and feels 'just right' ...

As has been said, QC is admirable and Yamaha got it absolutely right with these ...

Easily rectified with a replacement part.
I replaced one when I was the guitar tech at ICMP (London music school).

335 style instruments are a pain to work on, a decent tech won't charge much to fix it though, certainly a lot less than the difference in cost between this and the equivalent Gibson.

IMHO these are the best guitar Yamaha make.

I've never polished it to be honest, just gave it a quick wipe with a dry cloth to remove any dust prior to taking photos. It is very shiny.

  • Lovely guitar. Is that the Brown Sunburst or the Violin Sunburst?

  • PS - have you tried a squirt of switch cleaner in the selector switch?
