And it's mine, all mine...a late 74 Hylight Hiwatt DR103- lovingly cared for by a mate of mine for many years it's been re-capped, cleaned, revolved and probably kept in a Humador !! £950 - a steal...

Calling @icbm ...any issues you can see?

Now- those neighbours....

The neighbours will have to go.

It's a bit hard on them but they'll probably want to of their own accord soon enough.

Good score on the amp, i'm calling dibs
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Nah, they're just little ones. *These* are big transformers…

    With a DR103 for comparison -

    OMG - neat wiring...Harry Joyce!

After soldering they used to inspect the joint under magnification and then painted them if ok

That's because it was mostly done by women :).

Who worked for Joyce's company and had previously done wiring work for the military, if I remember right.

That's quality, military spec. I used to get that done when I worked for the RAF.

I know sod all about Hiwatt amps, would someone be so kind as to give me an example of a stereotypical Hiwatt sound?

Mid 70s Gilmour and Townsend, I reckon.

Although, I stand to be corrected...

He was still using them on the 'On An Island Tour' in 2006.

He had three of them when he played The Bridgewater Hall - I don't know if they were all being used. It must have been pretty loud up there!

Ah, that might explain it then as Pink Floyd and The Who have never been a particular favorite of mine. The Killers, some things I like but never paid enough attention to them to take note of the gear being used.

My gast is flabbered. I think my favourite guitar tone in the entire MP3-isphere is Echoes Live in Gdansk when he literally kicks the muff on and hits the massive CsharpMin chord as the very first note of the first solo....... It is breathtaking. That's the sound of a Cornish Muff going into the best pedal platform amp ever.

If my ear drum is to burst, I'd want that chord to burst it.

There are at least a couple with glowing KT88s in :).

See, thing is, I totally get why people like Floyd and have no problem with it (although can be fun baiting people ;) ) but fuck me they bore me rigid. I suppose it's all about what you get from music. Coming from a sleazy rock n roll background I prefer something that puts a woman on her back rather than getting her stoned.
