Hi.

Anyone selling a Epiphone Riviera/Sheraton/335/Casino with a big chunky neck similar to a 58/59 style?

Something else would be a Gibson SG with P90’s or Gibson LP Standard or Trad again with a big neck.

Just to give an idea of neck measurements, around .880 at the 1st and .980 at the 12th although bigger is fine.

Thanks

    From what i've owned in the past ,the Chinese/ Korean Epiphones are slim C  shape so i would rule them out , i did own a Japan Epiphone Riviera ala Oasis model and that had a nice fatter neck but the prices are now £1500 +++.

    The new Rivieras have a decent thick C neck profile.

    Cheers @chrisj1602 ;
     I should have added to my post that i haven't tried the "inspired by gibson " range so looks a good starting point for you @Dan ;;

  • Hi Dan, my Riviera is one of the later Korean models which I put some feelers out about earlier in the year. I wouldn't describe it as a 58/9 style neck but it's not slim neck either. I have '64 ES-330 and the neck on the Riviera feels bigger in the hand, perhaps it's wider.

    If you happen to be interested, here's my ad from earlier this year https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/221692/fs-ft-epiphone-riviera#latest

    Cheers,
    Joe

    Thanks for the assistance gents.

    I did contact peach who had one of the newer Riviera in and they were very helpful and took photos of the neck depth at 1st and 12th which was a big help. Sadly it looks like they are still a little slim but I might try another store or one local to see if there is one with a slightly bigger neck.

    Anyway, still on the lookout.

  • Have you played any Ibanez semis? I remember trying one out a few years ago and though that it had a pretty chunky neck on it. Peerless necks are also a good depth.

  • I keep umming and aahing about selling my 1983 MIJ Riviera... It's a jolly nice thing, the Maxon neck pickup is glorious through a Fender Twin!

    I feel like that's a good size neck but definitely not baseball bat.

    Thanks gents.

    @rlw im looking for something along the lines of a  a 58/59 or 10/56V. Generally 0.880” at the 1st fret and 0.980 plus at the 12th fret. Give or take.

    @simonhpieman Ill drop you a PM.

    Hi,
    @Dan ;
    I have a new Epiphone Riviera and one the reasons that I bought it becasue I like chunky necks too. It is not super chunky like a 58 LP but it still has some girth. I measured the thickness with a calipper now on 12th fret; it is 0.976" on mine.

    Thanks @Josh_Cosku great info!

    What’s it like at the 1st fret if you don’t mind me asking? 12th fret size is perfect.

    @Dan

    Here it is:
    1st fret 0.870"
    5th fret 0.905"
    7th fret 0.913"
    12th fret 0.976"

    Neck has some shoulders so it feels chunkier in the hand than the measured thinckness. Personally, I think it is a really good sized neck. Not too big not small.

    Another point, I recommend to buy one with trying becasue I played good and bad sounding ones of the exact same model.

    Two short clips if you are interested, first bridge and then neck PU. Direct into a Supro Balck Magick, no pedals.

    I took a dot with a neck repair in PX earlier today, it's solid and neck feels relatively chunky, if it's a itch that can be scratched with a low cost option

    I'm in Brum for work a couple of times a week, and have an Epiphone Rivera P-93 I might be getting rid of if you fancy a Bigsby and 3 P-90s?
