I actually own a Juno106, and I have Cherry Audio Dc106.

I could probably write a lot but it would just be my opinion.

In short:

Is there a difference in sound? yes.
Is it a massive difference? nope.
Could I say which is which in a blindfold? hopefully, but would probs get some wrong
Is the Juno106 "better"? Completely subjective
Would anyone ever notice in a mix? nope.
Do I prefer the Juno106? Yes.
Why? I prefer the hands on nature and grow very tired of clicking things with a mouse

Would I recommend the DCO106? Yep!

They are usually well regarded.

Regarding the Softtube. They are regularly rated as some of the most accurate emulations out there however you should consider if that actually matters to you or you just want something that sounds good as well as the CPU load.

For example Arturia updated the CS-80 plugin to be super accurate, but now it uses masses of CPU which means I don't use it.

The 106 is a very limited synth so it's also worth considering synths that are a bit less accurate, but maybe add a few useful features.

I'll look into that bundle you suggested as it's cheap enough, and I'm still interested in the Softube 106 emulation for the reasons you mentioned, i.e. it's limited as well as being an accurate emulation. I like to experiment with classic synths, and then I let the FX shape the sound.

@mrkb lol this is how they get you. You can get everything on native for £20 month. There's a 14 day trial period. Worth having a play if you're unsure. You still have to purchase the plugs outright to use them on their outboard DSP

For mixing I would want an 1176, LA2, some sort of channel strip/EQ, a Pultec and a bus compressor. Then some delays and reverbs and something that distorts. Doesn't have to be UAD. With the disclaimer that I am not a mix engineer

I know I started a thread on this that died on its arse, but maybe it would have been better in here. BFD Player (kind of 'lite' version of BFD, in terms of features rather than sounds) has been released and is freeware. Comes with one kit and a bunch of different presets/sound options as well as different grooves.

The money bit comes if you want expansion packs, which will cost when they're released. From what I can gather BFD4 is coming at some point as well, but that will likely be "proper" money.

I've been using it as a VST in Reaper on a test project, and it's very effective, much better, unsurprisingly than the (paid for) MTPowerDrumKit2 I'd been muddling along with before.

If anyone grabs it and wants to be saved the pain of writing out a note names file, I've done one to make the piano roll programming a bit easier.

It is a new plugin that seems to include both new modelling and "profiling" including the ability to load NAM profiles.

The video demo might not be for the faint of heart, considering who is playing/presenting it.

I was still able to authorise the freebie and essentials pack even though I couldn’t run the freebie. So I got the £50 essentials running on my quad if that makes sense. It’s a great deal.

I think the £50 bundle is a great deal, but though the £199 is also pretty good value I'd keep in mind that you can get Arturia FX4 for £50 more which has loads of really great stuff and if you wait a month for black Friday will probably be available for even less.

I got the £50 one. Put the tape machine on some submixes. Everything sounds clearer and more punchy. Probably worth it for that alone

There is something quite magical about a really good tape plugin.

I've been using TAIP for a while, but I got U-He Satin in the recent NI crazy discount screw up and it really does just add something magical on any bus you throw it at.

I could Def do with something decent for saturation. Thinking of picking up Saturn if there's a decent black Friday deal this year but does that do subtle stuff too?

Saturn excels at very subtle.

Decapitator is still my fav though.
