  • Yeah I've played it a few times this weekend and generally I like it. I think the songwriting is really strong - some of their best stuff in years IMO - but I'm not a big fan of the production style. Too heavily processed and too 'dense' and 'thick' sounding (not technical terms, but the best I can come up with to describe it!). On some tracks I think either/both the drums and the bass sound like they could be straight out of a synthesiser.

If you combined the more organic, sparse, rough around the edges production style of the likes of Vs or No Code with some of the songs on this album I think it would be superb. I reckon a lot of the tracks will work a lot better live rather than on the record.

I’ve been listening to this on the drive in and out of work this week. It’s not bad, but it feels like an album of the Spotify age. It doesn’t feel like it has an identity. To my mind and ear, every PJ album so far is its own thing, it has an identity and sound -whereas this meanders between the last 5 albums.

Lovely guys and all that but one of the most overrated bands ever.

  • As I thought might be the case, the songs sound better live compared to the over-produced studio versions...

Anyone else use Apple Music? The mastering was weird when I listened - and some tracks were far louder than others.

now i am a massive PJ Fan but just find the whole album a bit  Meh
i dont know if its Andrew Watts production ( its very similiar to the Vedder solo album which he also produced) but i reckon it will sound a lot better live

  • I've seen a few YouTube videos of the North American leg of their tour and the shows look great - everyone in great form.

I've finally managed to wangle the day off work to go to the gig in Manchester in a couple of weeks. Anyone else going to see them when they're over here?

Yep, taking my son on his 19th birthday to Tittenham Stadium. Haven’t seen them before so will be happy just to hear them live.

You seated or standing? I haven't got tickets yet, but having seen pics of the inside of the arena it looks so enormous you'll need binoculars to see anything from the upper tiers of seats!

Do you know if the standing area is separated into a front and back area, or is everyone just in together?

Like the album 10x better than Gigaton. Going to London at the end of the month which should be great. I've seen them 10+ times before but never in a stadium setting.

I see they have upped their production and now have a screen behind the band for the first time ever! On previous tours you could sit behind the band. They'd often turn around and play a track facing backwards for the people sat there. It's is a very different concert experience seeing the backs of their heads but very fun. The stripped down minimalist production really suited them previously so it'll be interesting to compare.

Some of the pics and videos I've seen look pretty spectacular, like they've taken some tips from the U2 Sphere gigs!
