Brilliant game for it's time, I have a that game kicking around somewhere in the backroom! Have you tried the Skate series of skateboard games for PS3/Xbox 360?

I played all of the games mentioned so far. Lately we've been playing an extroidinary amount of R-Type at the office. We've got a little high score competition going on; start at level on and go as far as you can and get as high a score as you can on a single credit; no continues.

My tea often went cold because of games like Tony Hawk's.  How I miss those times  :(

I'm all about Super Mario World.

My real gaming heyday was N64, but I tend to stay off those (apart from Mario64) these as they really haven't aged well. Goldeneye is almost unplayable compared with modern shooters.

I got Earthworm Jim on PSN before christmas. Still plays well but my god it's hard. It seems 10 year old me was better at it than 30 year old me!!

Defender. It was 10p a go in my local 'spacy'. 10 goes later and my pocket money was gone until the next week. My kids don't know how lucky they are.

  • Tony Hawks 2 is my fave of the series with 4 coming a close 2nd.

nostalgia for me is Xenon 1 on the Oric; Horace Goes Skiing on the Spectrum; Kickstart and Way of the Exploding Fist on the C64; Vroom, Archer Macleans Pool, Buggy Boy and IK+ on the Atari St; Black Widow, Pac Land, Mr Do, Tempest, Star Wars, Track & Field and Hyper Sports in the arcades.

Get yourself MAME and a couple of hundred ROMs.

And then wallow in nostalgic magnificence.

  • Earthworm Jim was awesome!
I grew up with SNES, megadrive, N64 etc (always thought Sony and Microsoft entering the fray made things "corporate" and cack).
There are several new games I'd love to play but just don't have the time if I want to pursue my guitar hobby to a decent standard. I've not played one properly for many years now. Used to enjoy it but just like watching tv these days I feel guilty, like I'm wasting my time. Is it a younger person's pursuit? I can't say for definite but I'm pretty sure I had more fun playing games back in the "old" days. These multiplayers like CoD etc, I just think they're guff! No music during multiplayer? TOO realistic - where's the fun factor?

  • "Back in the Day" ain't what it used to be ;)
It certainly bloody is. @Drew_fx's exploits made me download MAME and R-Type, and I was completely hooked for a few weeks. Until Elite: Dangerous came out, that is...
