My Helix isn't arriving for a month so this is an opportunity to overthink everything in advance.
L3s sub
2 l3ms
4 l2ts (depending on the venue space)
M20 mixer
I sometimes just hijack one of the L2s as an amp for rehearsal
I like the idea of running parallel loops from a crossover too.
You could use one of your favourite cello for example to plug in an electric cello
On the Amp and cab front I've come to the conclusion they are more hassle than they are worth
The inbuilt Ir s are stereo and there are loads of them
You can dynamically change the mics/distance/reflections
One of my favourite things is the dual cab block
You can select a stereo cab block and combine any two of the cabinets
The best way to do this stuff is to use the hands free controls and play the guitar while stepping through the mic choices
After an hour or so you'll come to the conclusion that it's not productive and choose the first one that sounds decent and then get on with your life
If you use 3rd party Irs every single configuration/ mic/ placement/ EQ is a different IR
So let's say you get the Ownhammer freebie Demo IR bundle of a Mesa cab and find a couple you like
You will have cycled through about 30-40 irs
If you then go and buy the bundle you will be in the hundreds
Some people love that. I'm too busy
Muhahahahaha!
I generally find the most important thing to start off is to learn the interface. Once you've got that down it's all much simpler.
I jumped straight in and tried to build the biggest most complicated rig I could then got bogged down in routing ,switches, splits and merges and managed to consume all the DSP by creating something awful ...
I get the impression that the Helix is a good chunk more complex than my previous multiFX (Boss ME-5, ART SGX2000E, Roland VG-88) but I'm used to working with menus and so on which can be a fair bit of the battle. Also I'm not hugely interested in re-enacting 50s and 60s guitar sounds which probably helps.
