The first proper post of 2018 and I've been back in the spray booth today shooting some clear on the latest Kemp Guitars own (stock/private) builds - white DC3 and the gloriously pink "Pinky Dinky" SS...

Both will be fitted with black Gotoh hardware and Irongear pickups... Yes, Irongear pickups - Steam Hammer in the DC3 and Metal Machine in my SS. I could go out and spend a bit more on some bigger brand pickups but I've used these particular pickups before, including a £1500 custom build, and loved them. These will be left to cure now, making room and time for those two exotic DCs that appear earlier in the thread

Working with something a little more "natural" today - but certainly no less boring. Rest of the guitar gets a straight Tru-Oil finish, more soon...

That stained Sapele (thru-neck build) has now seen some Tru-Oil...

    And the front...

As expected, yes. That said, my camera is crap at taking indoor shots and I was under artificial light which makes a difference. It will look different (and better) once the Tru-Oil is finished =)

I like that PME fboard... Some can be a bit too busy, this works nice. Just waiting for the Luminlay now and then I shall move on with it and get the body glued up :)

That white DC3 now ready to go. I wasn't sure about this body shape after making the Sapele archtop prototype in October. I said back then that I'd have to make another and paint it... Here it is and I'm happier with it now.

DC3 #2: Alder body (flat top), 3-piece Wenge/Sapele neck (bolt-on), African Ebony fretboard (25.5" scale length), Gotoh fixed bridge/381 tuners, Irongear "Steam Hammer" pickups, coil split mini-switch and matte Signal White PU finish.

DC3 is a brilliant shape from the pictures I've seen. Got a nice offset look at the back, without looking out of balance like extreme offsets do.

The bevel edge on the top makes it look like it would be comfy to play too.

Thanks, it's great to hear, some feedback. Yeah, I wasn't sure about the DC3 to begin with but given a paint job - especially the white with black hardware and Ebony fboard - has changed my views on it.

In terms of playability and comfort, it's probably my most comfortable design ever. Fret access is great, even though most guitars are designed for easy upper fret access, and generally feels great playing whether sitting down or standing. I love it now and will probably look to do a 7-string version soon (this was planned to be a 7 string but the fretboard blank was too narrow).

Time to reveal the latest Kemp build in all its glory... Had a real hard time selecting pics for this one. There's 8 on the website but here's (I think) the best handful...

Custom 8-string DC - Wenge/Maple thru-neck, Ziricote drop-top on Sapele (stained) body wings, Multiscale Bocote fretboard, Hipshot fixed bridge, Gotoh 381 Magnum Lock tuners, Bare Knuckle Pickups Aftermath set and Tru-Oil finish

The resurrection of the "Pinky Dinky"... Part 1

Decided to remove the whole damaged area of the SS body, taking it as far back as the rear cover recess. I found a piece of Alder almost big enough to replace the missing section of the body, but it did need a bit extra for which I used a Sipo offcut...

Leaving this overnight now. May or may not get more done tomorrow but part 2 soon :)
