I think you should get yourself a fretless and embrace your inner Palladino/Karn.

    Stingray fretless, or a Wal.

    go on...
Cor I'd have to put my brave trousers on to do that!

I have to admit I actually think Wal's are ugly and overpriced. Yeah, I'm a heathen, I know.

    It is worth considering tho.

What's the going rate for a Shergold Marathon these days? £50?
That's probably all that HarrySeven paid for it. ;)

Last year I played fretless all the time for about 6 months. Got quite into it actually. Then some chap sold me a Stingray and I was lost.....!

    (Still loving it btw)

Well I had a good go on the ACG tonight.

It's a lot more than I expected - got a real character to it! Lots and lots of growl and it's sufficiently different to a traditional p bass sound to be worth having.

Tone is only half the story - build quality is impeccable - fit and finish is extraordinary. The weight is a massive plus - it's under 7.5lbs and balances so well on the strap.

I wasn't sure how much I'd like the neck - but it's wide enough for me, and the asymmetric profile is very comfy. An hour of playing and not tired at all. Lovely.

I find the fretless a very different instrument tbh. Its very unique. I'm not really a fan of the classic fretless sound, but I do really enjoy playing it.

Oh and I tried the Ibanez and the ACG at rehearsal last night.. the Ibanez really punches above it's price - brilliant bass.

    The ACG was also exceptional...

    Ace. You are Peter Hook.

Here is some little known Shergold Marathon trivia: the global 1979 chart topping sensation that is Cars, by Gary Numan, was written on one in ten minutes.
