Have to ask. What's with C18Q1? Some kind of Mason's handshake thing?

    C18Q1 Bridgehouse's Comedy Bass Rebuild

As for 'Daphne Blue is being slapped on now.' Shouldn't someone notify the authorities?

C18Q1 is what I have been instructed to put - as per all the other Challenge 2018 Quarter 1 threads...

Pay attention at the back there!

Could we have a little less progress, and a bit more comedy please.
You haven't seen the body yet.. more bad runs than Arsenal's defence
Ahhhh - there you go with the comedy.

Everyone knows that Arsenal's defence don't run!

Project on hold. Work has gone mad.

Plus the fact it's official. Balsa is impossible to paint effectively. So it now needs stripping and I will have to go with an alternative solution. No idea what yet. Might even be tempted to do a black stain but broadly I'm out of ideas for it as it's beyond my spraying capability, sadly.

I would be tempted to epoxy the sides with a good finishing epoxy like west systems.  That should solve the balsa issue

Or as a quick fix, if the front and back are okay but sides are crap.... some kinda variation on danelectro side tape?

This one is rapidly going to the land of abandonia - the work required to get the body fit for some kind of painting is getting mad - and it's going to cost.

Ugh. Don't like doing it but I don't have the time at the moment, and my inclination is going too. Had a brief look tonight and frankly I'm not looking forward to dealing with it

Try the Steve Hillage Strat look. Blowtorch and abrasives. :)

Got all pissy with it tonight and stripped it again.

It's back to natural - and in the shed languishing in the freezing cold ;) I may possibly have been over enthusiastic with the random orbital sander this time round in my general pissed-off-ness. Um.

I have a proper build incoming and I've already started looking for parts and stains/finishes already for it. I think I've written this one off as more hassle/expense than it's worth.

Turns out this is the exact opposite of a comedy bass - turned into a tragedy

You know when you get to a certain point with something where you are like, yeah, no.

    Yeah. That.

I suspect balsa would take to the blowtorch quite quickly ;)

Dont worry - there will be a new project with an actual purpose soon

    Aw, don’t abandon it altogether.

i have a soft spot for these Yamaha’s and I was looking forward to seeing what’s could be done wit it.

My next suggestion was going to be a wrap.

    This.

Given the construction, it might also be worth emphasising the Dano theme with a pair of lipstick tube pickups.

I was thinking a wrap too, or something like plastikote?

I know it's sad, but I just don't want to plow money and time into it.

The painting experience was disappointing. I have decided to shelve it, move on to the queue of other projects I have and then maybe revisit in the summer when I have time and inclination to spend hours in the shed.

I need tk do a project that will get get me motivated again as I've totally lost it with this one.

At a certain point, the effort required to turn shite into sugar would be better put into something else. While the construction is 'interesting', I can't help thinking that I'd rather make a new body out of wood that has something akin to viable structural integrity.

Sparkly drum wrap would be amazing, if the edges aren't too radiused.
