Really enjoying the vocals on this band, some great harmonies.  Don't be put off by the visuals, they're closer to a classic rock band than anything else.

Funnily enough I had a guitar student earlier who mentioned this band, as we were talking about certain bands who don't show their faces at gigs until they play, trying to create a "mystery" to their fan base so the topic turned to this band who wear the masks and stuff. Interesting sound as from first impressions I expected screamo drop tuned metalcore type riffs!

Yeah from seeing the masks I would've guessed they'd sound a lot heavier than they are.

I’ve been a fan of these for a while, when I first heard them they struck me as Merciful Fate crossed with Blue Oyster Cult

Met Tobias a few years back in Madrid. Had a good look at the first mask. I was stood next to James Hetfield who was singing every word.

I never know quite what to make of them, the image and lyrics are so dark but the vocals and even the melodies are almost poppy.  I do quite like them though.

The MySpace tracks and singles still sound great. And the song He Is is incredible. It' a tribute to Selim from The Devils Blood and really sounds like them.

  • I'm a fan, Meliora is a brilliant album start to finish. Really looking forward to the next one, I just wonder how the change of band members will affect it.

I love Meliora. The previous album is certainly heavier, and it sounds like the next one could be too.

I love this song as well.

I don't know if this counts but:-

Not sure if it's a cover or not but it's awesome.

    :)

This was supposed to be their debut show but they ended up playing in Germany the night before.

Absolutely love Ghost, saw them live last year and I'd highly recommend going to see them on the next tour.

They've dropped the first single off their new album yesterday as well -

I have to admit I listened to the new song after seeing it listed on Classic Rock Magazine's "Tracks of the Week" feature last week and thought I'd hate it but I actually surprised myself. It's quite cool. It's really not how I imagined it would be based on their image and the cover art etc.

Have you heard "He Is"? Another great song completely different to what you would expect from their image.

They really surprised me. When they first came about they were described as death metal (!?) and based on their image i made an assumption.
Later actually hearing them, i found i was completely wrong. Lots of great songs.

The first time I heard Square Hammer it struck me how much the vocals reminded me of The Posies and the ending in particular is *so* Dream All Day!
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

Listened to the new album a few times today ,and have to say, I am a little disappointed actually. Not that I don't like it, but I was expecting a bit more.

Square Hammer, He Is, Majesty, and Cirice were so good on the last album and I just don't hear anything at that level here. Maybe it will grow on me though!

They will do very well to be as good as Cirice again

It is very much pure 80s soft rock and I'd have liked it a bit heavier. I have to say that the drums sound superb and there is some cracking cheesy guitar playing. I absolutely love Rats and Pro Memoria is a pretty good track too.

Cirice is in a league of its own though.and Meliora is a much better album

Given it a good listen and have to agree, Meliora was a tough act to follow. I still really like the album as a whole though, it flows well and the instrumentation is superb. I can understand why there are so many more instrumental sections on this one compared to the last. Good on them for not making Meliora II.

That sax during Miasma caught me off guard too.

I think many people, myself included, were hoping for Meliora Part 2 because that is such a good album. To be fair to Ghost no two albums are the same, they've constantly been evolving. Now they've hit their 80's phase ;) - After initially being a little disappointed with the direction of Rats and Dance Macabre (even though I think it's a good pop song) having listened to the full album a few times now I think it's cracking. Faith is a brilliant song and I love both the instrumentals, particularly the Sax solo in Miasma!

I've listened to it 6 times according to google play (apart from Life Eternal, 9 times apparently because Google can't count).

I do really like the album too, I just wanted a Meliora Part 2 as well. To me (and a lot of people I guess), that is peak Ghost. Don't get me wrong though, I like Prequelle too, and it is probably going to end up my 2nd favourite of all the Ghost albums so far I guess. It is consistently good, just not having the peaks.
