The dumb thing is that I'm not even against poly per se, esp when it's thin - it's just that I know how good the upper-tier MM necks feel and to me that's an *enormous* upgrade on the newer stuff (I presume GG agrees)...

Argh. Still on balance probably have to leave these ones for others this time. But I'll firmly enable anyone else who wants one.

Phew. The Tobacco burst one is now sold out. That saves me from a tricky conversation with the wife.

Great value for money but I am not a fan of the headstock.

Have to say - I was out in London trying a bunch of musicman's (I own some already). Played a valentine thinking i would love it.. but just didnt. The feel was of course there etc etc, then as a last minute decision I tried a stringray... So good. Had the thin satin which was still very quick to play.. not thick laqauer and the tones from all 3 positions where so lovely. Its not a beefy sounds.. more single coil esk (to me). Tons of chime.

I will defiantly be getting one at some point.. and yeah I dont love the look.. but the tone was that good (for me)

I'm in the market, and awaiting the 2018 Cutlass models to be hitting the shops.  I love the 2016 models, but I'm really interested in the roasted necks, I have a Warmoth roasted maple neck on my tele, and it's awesome.

At ~£2k that's the same ball park as an Elite Fender Strat.  There's something about the vibe of the MusicMans that I really like, but I wonder if I'd regret not going Fender..?

You would when it came to resale if you decided a Fender was what you wanted all along...

The build quality and attention to detail (and the new roasted necks) is a cut above the normal Fender guitars, and I'm a big Fender fan. Most Musicman USA guitars and basses feel like a custom shop instrument IMO.

I got one of the Cutlass blowouts at GG a while back.
IMHO, this is one of the best values out there. Zillions have said it but it bears repeating: Quality is up there with Suhr, Tom Anderson, Tyler (all of which I've had), but for some inexplicable reason EBMM costs less. I prefer my Cutlass to any other strat type I've had with the exception of D'Pergo, which is a different vibe alltogether and requires both kidneys to purchase.

I'll also be looking for a roasted neck because those are killer just to look at, let alone play.

Whilst it may not be your taste shape-wise, have a look at how stunning their builds are here for an example:

I’ve had a bit of GAS for a 4HH Bongo lately. I used to dislike the shape but it’s grown on me, and it sounds quite different to a Stingray.

I don’t own one but Bongos look great. Stingray basses are wonderful but alas don’t seem to hold value unless it’s a Pre EB sprinkled with magic vintage mojo fairy dust

I bought mine used, actually I don't think there was a new 4HH Stingray in the country when I was in the market for one.

I think the fact they had a period of time when there was a big price difference between some very similar models hasn't helped resale.  The US Made Sub was pretty much a 2EQ Ray, and even the 2EQ Ray was considerably cheaper than the 3EQ Ray but looked pretty much the same and some felt it sounded better anyway.
