    Marillion - Clutching At Straws
Because the following 15 albums didn't count.
    No. They don't.

Clockwork Angels isn't Rush's best, but it is a darned good album!
It did cross my mind - not many bands, if any, last 40 years maintaining the quality level like Rush did, but I couldn't say it's their best album.

And... is it definitely their last?

    First up:-

The Doors. LA Woman is a killer album.

    Any more?

Not The Doors last album ,IIRC, just the last one with Jim.

[ Now that’s how you make friends and influence people... ]

Err, if I can include not a band then Back to Black by Amy Winehouse.
But Frank must be up there for the best debut in that case.
Although she would miss out on the best middle album category.

In a not dissimilar set of career moves I'll throw in Closer by Joy Division. It's the album I think of when I think of the band.

I see them as different eras. Both excellent
    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

    I was being a little sarcastic ;)

I like Hogarth era, but there was something more special about them back when Fish was fronting the band.

I disagree on many levels! Although I'd agree the Clutching at Straws is an excellent album which conveys a sense of alcohol fuelled travel and social transience beauitifully, I think that Misplaced Childhood still stands the test of time better. I'd also argue that Marbles and Afraid of Sunlight - although perhaps both are not as cohesive as 'albums' - are its equal, and that Brave is still the best album Marillion have made by some distance. It's an absolute masterpeace.

On the OP I'd say The Walkmen. There is nothing much to pick between You & Me, Lisbon and Heaven but they certainly finished on their strongest three albums. I saw them live three times between 2009 and 2013 and they just got better and better each time.

    Enemies - Valuables

And until their recent reunion, At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command

Jeff Buckley - Grace (admittedly he only had one 'proper' album)

    Distillers - Coral Fang

    Sleater Kinney - The Woods

Fugazi - The Argument (arguable, funnily enough, because people each have their favourite - but it really is a stunner)

I'm going to put it in the car for the commute next week. Saw them in Bristol on that final tour - one of the best gigs I've seen - complete with lecturing a guy who was abusing other audience members, and berating the house for putting on the aircon too high!

Joy Division - Closer, though admittedly a very fine line between that and Unknown Pleasures. Both truly awesome, but I think Closer edges it, just.
