If you count Abbey Road as The Beatles final album (it wasn't the last to be released but was the last recorded I think?) then IMO it's their best.

Yes, great album, my all time best Beatles album.  Something about those care free final albums that really hit the spot.  Both examples far more ‘live’ that their predecessors.

Pride And Glory  , the first , last and only album .  Best thing Zakk Wylde has ever done .
He should have done it the opposite way around - one Black Label Society (one would have been plenty) and more Pride And Glory albums instead.

As it was recorded last - it should be considered their last, as far as I’m concerned. It’s a great album....

Not The Doors last album ,IIRC, just the last one with Jim.

Err, if I can include not a band then Back to Black by Amy Winehouse.

Never understood the love for Abbey Road. A couple of great songs but most of it is tosh.

The inclusion of the hands down worst song they ever did - Maxwell's Silver Hammer - scores it serious negatives straight off the bat.

But Frank must be up there for the best debut in that case.

I can't think of any, apart from one-album wonders.  Most bands carry on too long past their peak.

  • If we're stretching the point to use the term "band" to mean a particular incarnation of a lineup, then...

Love, Fear & The Time Machine - Riverside. If Piotr Grudziński (guitarist) hadn't died suddenly, who knows what the next one would have become.

Stone Roses - second coming. Great guitar sounds and amazing feel to tracks like Begging You. The eponymous album has decent songs on it but it sounds too 80s in terms of production. Too much chorus and gated reverb!
