Klone alternative? (Or rather- Klone with less mids?

What's Hot

Hi all! So I've been using a Frederic Effects Golden Eagle as my always-on, edge of breakup pedal and I've tried to grin and bear it but I can't anymore. It sounds great but not what I'm after- it flattens my tone somewhat and isn't particularly transparent. I'll keep it, but I want something that's less mid-heavy, but stacks well.
Many suggestions? I know the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe has the 3 band eq...

    Metalzone has less mids..... sorry,

the Tumnus deluxe sounds amazing, still fairly mid heavy from what I remember.
    Have you tried the Gunshot?

Whats your guitar / amp / signal chain ?   and what sort of target sound you after ?

If its a pushed amp type sound youre after have you considered an eq pedal as an clean boost with real tweaking options ..

imho  klones arent really transparent,  more mids focussed  - \something based around a Timmy circuit  maybe better option

Timmy or a peacekeeper would be good options

Not a Klon but have you tried the Xotic EP Booster? Think I preferred the tone of the EP to my RYRA, from memory the Super Hard On on my ZVex Double Rock also sounded pretty damn good

  • Most importantly these both stacked well with other drives. The RYRA didn’t stack as well IMO

  • +1 for the Thorpy Peacekeeper. Such a powerful eq in that pedal that you can shape it for a huge range of sounds

    Timmy
Or a Clark gainster if you like a TS frequecy range but more open.
    TC booster could do too

  • It's got to be a Thorpy Peacekeeper, to be honest. That'll do exactly what you're looking for

Anyone been over to TGP recently to see if anyone's claiming that the little ones "just don't sound as good"?

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

They're really not! They're not much bigger than the compact Origin Effects pedals, and the top mounted jacks make them use up about as much space as a Boss pedal

The J Rockett Blue Note is worth a look. Very transparent. Sensible controls. Timmy-ish but maybe even a little more transparent. The earlier versions have a switch that adds more mids and more drive but for me it’s an unnecessary feature. There’s no switch on the newer ones.

-they're not. Even the older "big" enclosure Thorpy pedals only take up about the same room as a Boss pedal.

You work in a guitar shop and have not tried all the thorpys. Mind boggled.
