well that spoils that game !  ;)

I don't feel so bad about my meagre haul now though, so it's not all bad (though I have just remembered another 3).

I can't remember. Too many, probably...!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

    I've had 10 and I've got 9.

The cheap spanish classical I 'learned' on
    Yamaha Pacifica
    Epiphone SG
    Gordon Smith GS2
    Crafter Dreadnought

All of which I've got shot of and I now have six, including electrics,m acoustics and a bass that are all better than the above and that all get used. 11 in total. Rather restrained by some standards!

I suppose one thing I have in common with some others though is that I've bought better as I've got older, which involves buying less but spending more in order to get what I want. I regard all those guitars I bought and sold as false economies. My chops were up to it, so why I didn't just buy a Strat or whatever from the off was sheer silliness and stinginess on my part.

11, and I now have 9, one of which is unplayable, and kept for sentimental reasons. The other two I gave to my children. I have a similar approach to @Skarloey. I don't often buy a guitar, when I do it's a "good" one, and so far I haven't sold one.

I am really shocked at some of the responses. I have had about 15 over a long period.
Why don't you just buy keepers?

No - scrub that. I am wrong. I have sold 6 or 7 "keepers" in the past 5 years and it is an absolute freaking nightmare.

Because you don't know what's a keeper and what isn't until after you've owned it :).

To be fair, at one time I would buy almost any guitar that came my way if I liked it and it was cheap - just to try out different things. Some I knew I wasn't going to keep for long, some I genuinely believed would be keepers but turned out not to be, a couple of others I just seem to have accidentally kept even though I didn't expect to… and might not forever.

The ones that seem to be the keepers now are the 12-string I've had since 1989, purely because I've never played a better one, the electric I bought as a functional solution to a problem but turned out to fit me better than almost anything... except for the electric I swapped on a whim for something I wasn't using, and the electric I bought to replace my first one, but which I don't even play much even though I would feel bad about selling.

I never expected to sell one which was my main gigging guitar for five years, but after my band and music style changed I didn't play it at all for two years and eventually just sold it.

The hardest thing for me is making myself part with guitars I don't need but have become attached to. I currently have five electrics, but really only "need" two, three at most.

Can't remember exactly but around 40 I think. That's less than one a year since I started playing so that's good, right?

I really didn't want to sell my Ibanez PS10 Paul Stanley, I still wish I had it.
I had debts and rent to pay and the Ibanez was the only thing of real value I had, so it had to go.
    Sad face.

That's in the space of about six-and-a-half years. And I still own ten of them :D
