What's Hot

Im pretty green when it comes to effects as I usually only use an OD for a solo boost. For a particular song (I wonder if you can guess which song) we do we have access to a Bagpipe player but not all of the time. Is there a pedal I could use to play the bagpipe bits on lead? I play through a JMP 2203 or JCM 800 Marshall. Thanks in advance

A Boss PS-5 should be close. Stuart Adamson used an MXR Pitch Transposer - an early rack-mount pitch shifter - to get his distinctive bagpipe-like sound in Big Country.

To do it really well you need something that will produce a drone as well, a Boss DF-2 will do that, although you have to hold it down for the whole time you want the drone.

  • ..or just play the same notes but on a guitar and don't get hung up on aiming for the exact same sound (cos none of your audience will care)

Big Country used the MXR M129 and Bruce Watson still does, apparently. Mike Oldfield had some wacky thing built for him. EBows get mentioned as one way to do the bagpipe thing.

  • don't play the song, "they" didn't... not once the pipes had been damaged iirc

    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

Just a thought, with the lack of a loop, would either the above be ok in front of tha amp. If so would it come before or after the od boost

On the original recording Scott couldn't play it so what you are hearing is mostly tape manipulation anyway. IIRC.

It doesn't have to sound bang on just near enough and something to fill the space a bit

We did discuss an electric pipe :-)
Just another thought is there a pedal you can load and save samples in?

Plenty of loopers will do that easily.

I know a guy in a Who tribute who have the "Won't Get Fooled" and "Baba O'Riley" synth bits sampled and played from a Boss looper.

You can store sample loops set to single-play in the Digitech JamMan Solo XT. With an additional footswich you can even step up/down through presets on the fly. It's USB linkable to your computer so you can do all your editing etc. on the computer and then load it onto the looper.
