The Matrix is supposed to be 'flat' but everyone's idea of flat is different and it would very much depend on what cabs you are using.  The global EQ section of the Helix is great for tweaking the EQ so it sounds good, don't worry about 'flat' just use your ears

Helix is sat at home waiting for me. Today has been a loooooong day at work.

    Q. is anyone using a matrix power amp (or similar) to run into stereo cabs?

Does something like this have a flat EQ section, so that you can use an amp model (pre and power) in the helix without adding an additional power amp characteristic ?

    I run 3 configurations
    1. 2 freyettes going into 2 1x12s, XLRs FOH
    2. Marshall 9100 Stereo Poweramp into 2 1x12s, XLRs into FOH
    3. Direct into FOH and monitors via normal methods

no need for flat EQ, just twiddle to taste

worth mentioning I take a path before the cab emulation for 1/4 outs so the cabs are just on the XLRs

with that (mostly no.2) do you tend to run just the pre amp block or the whole amp?

I feel I have a lot of tweaking ahead of me...

    Thanks.

If I were to get a Helix (I'm saving up!) I'd want a monitor with a couple of balanced line inputs - one for the output of the helix, and one from the main PA monitoring. I wouldn't want two monitors in front of me.

I'll look into it more as and when I am in a position to try a Helix.

You can do that with an L2 by using the digital out
although I'm not sure why you wouldn't just monitor the Helix via the desk

You could get the Helix to do the mixing...

Ah, OK, so there are a few ways to do this.

    Excellent.

I'm pretty sure you could use a TRS-TS adapter and take the PA send in to Helix and then mix it with your guitar sound and have one output to your monitor, if needed

That's a really cool idea. If it works (and I think it should probably be pretty close) then it would certainly be of great use to a lot of people.

It is the way forward, I carry less to gigs, the singer can hear himself and I sound fantastic, even though I do say so myself! :)
