Looking for a quality delay pedal new or secondhand for £80 to £100. Any advice welcome.

  • If you want a basic-ish but reliable tap tempo delay pedal, the Akai Headrush E2 is good.

I'd suggest looking at a Line 6 M5 though. It'll 'be' a normal delay unit if that's all you want, but there's loads more to experiment with too.

I'm just looking for quite a basic delay. What about tc electronic flashback or digitech obscura? Please keep coming with suggestions.

DD-3, no need for the early long chip ones, basic and brilliant.

It you need tap tempo then Boss DD-7 or 20.

Boss do the basics really well :)

    Boss DD-3 innit
Or, for small footprint, I recently added a Valeton Moon Echo to my life.  Really nice (other than the brightest LED on the planet but a bit of gaffa tape managed to dim it to acceptable levels)

Hard to go wrong with a DD7, you get a lot in it for not much money. Tap tempo without an extra switch is a ball ache though.

Good point on the DL8 :)

    Because a DL8 and say a DD-3 sound different.

You might want to try some, find what works for you.

Boss for me personally, the DL8 works great but it made the sound thin, for me personally.

TC Alter Ego and the Digitech Obscura both on my board and get plenty of use, would recommend without hesitation. The TC is hard to get a bad sound out of, the Obscura has more warbly modulation which doesn't necessarily sound like what you are after.

Also have a Memory Toy but don't use it much, I actually prefer the TC's MM settings.

Also look at the Boss DD7, Echo Park or Carbon Copy.

Another vote for the DD-3 if basic is what yer after.  I have one alongside a Boss RE-20 Space Echo which is also brilliant.

  • TRex Reptile (not the Replica) has a great sound and is easy to drive. They come in at that sort of price second hand. I love mine over the TC Alter Ego X4 I also own (and should sell).

I'm quite happy with my Hardwire DL-8.
You should be able to find one 2nd hand within budget.

The Behringer echo machine has it all if you can get it past the cork sniffers. I also have the alter ego and that is indeed fab

Spent £120 last week on Chiltern Railways and got two delays.

    Great value.
