New MJW Orion Rig Completed for Forum Member

This Orion and 2x12 is forum member @ennspek so I thought I'd put up a little report so you can see what's going on (amongst other things) here at MJW.

It's a classic Orion, with 4 x KT66, cathode biased for 45W clean, with a JTM45-ish clean channel and a JMP-Plexi style overdrive, with an extra gain stage that switches in making it much like a JCM800, but with a variable boost level. This particular one has Power Scaling, and the addition of dual master volumes (foot-switchable, along with channel and boost).

Both channels have bright switches, and the SDM Zero Loss loop is standard.

The speakers in the cab are Celestion G12M-65 Creambacks.

Finished in white with black trim and a purple jewel lamp. Supplied with free Roqsolid covers.

Stunning.

I had a look at Martin's page and fell back on looking at the pictures of the Taranis. I'd have to start up a new doom band to justify an amp like that but it'd be worth it.

Great work from Martin as ever with the Orion. I love the looks of big bottle valves like Kt66's as well.

Loving that the dirty channel has Volume Boost and Gain AND THEN goes to another MV.

I'm 99% sure my next amp will be MJW, though more likely a single channel, less face-melting spec!

The heatsink and fan are for the Power Scaling mosfets. The heatsink is probably a little bit OTT with an aluminium chassis. The fan even moreso!

OTT is much better that the 'sure it'll be fine' approach taken by a lot of manufacturers

Yes, I agree - better to be OTT and safe (unless it adds significantly to weight lol)!

Looks great - nice spec!

I want to see the purple light switched on lol. And - the plexi and JCM stages for different gain levels lol.

@ennspek - I hope you do a demo of this!

Similar to Thorpy's Orion but a 1x12 combo with Neo Creamback, 2x EL34's for 50w, blackface inspired clean channel, JCM800 inspired crunch channel with a footswitchable boost that takes it into SLO territory. Can't bloody wait!
