    Jazz III Tortex .88

I don't like the way the nylons sound, dulls the tone.
I tend to play with quite a bright amp tone - so nylon is fine for me - and it blends well (tonally) with my fingers when hybrid picking.

Yellow or orange with the tortoise on it, slight preference for yellow. I als like the fender tortoiseshell medium ones

I'm firmly back in the no plec camp these days. It 'feels' much better to me that way although I lose a tad of speed and accuracy. I do need to coat my index fingernail with acrylic every week or so though to give it the necessary strength.

Tiny bit bigger but not as big as a Jazz III XL and made of ultex. Just found a pack of them lying about, so I'll be using these now haha

    Open to new ideas ?

Yeh, just that, the picks they-are-a-changing.. I've recently come to realise that just 'coz you've used a <whateverthefuck> for the past whatever years, it may not be the best pick for you. If fact, it may turn out that you're not a 1-pick type of guy, and that you could even prefer different picks at different times - is that mumsnet enough for you ;)
Seriously, they cost nothing, try them all.

Either dunlop Hetfield black fangs 1.16m (or thereabouts) or dunlop gels, the see thru yellow extra heavy ones.

The gels are thicker slightly, more grippy but less harsh on the attack I find.

Hetfields are a little slippy, more contoured, wear marginally faster but have a brighter attack.. for me anyway..

Just Fender Mediums - I like the colours. :)

I also use Tortex yellows and green.

Whatever is to hand really, I'm not too precious about it.

    Sigmund Freud Celluloid.

If there's anything that's just perfect I haven't found it yet but the Sigmunds are quite stiff material so I prefer a slightly thinner one than my normal 1.0

Jazz III Ultex 2.0 - the thick black one. I looked it up and they're 2mm.

  • I still haven't found anything I like more than the Fender 351 shape medium celluloid plectrums. I like the feel and tone. They also seem to last ages.
They have to be the pearloid ones though, because, you know, shiny.

  • I've used yellow tortex for at least a decade. EIther regular or sharkfin if I want a bit more "texture" in the sound

  • I find Tortex (and similarly textured picks) easier to grip onto than gels. I've read about some folks punching holes in their plectrums to help with gripping. YMMV
