Although there are raging debates about whether you can actually have an f-style without a florentine scroll, as an F style could have no scroll but f-holes, and an a style must have a round hole. And that's madness because a Gibson F-4 is a florentine, with a scroll, but with a round hole. Madness I tell you. Mandolin Cork Sniffers are even more cuckoo than guitar ones.
Either way, nice mandolin
I don't intend to get fully into cork-sniffer territory, but I needed a decent cheap mandolin as I'm studying the instrument at uni this semester, and I wanted something I could plug in as well. Obviously since it's an Ibanez, I'll replace the pickup with a DiMarzio or a Bare Knuckle at some point soon.
It's really good fun. I love it. Bit of a challenge for me with my big hands though.
Treat it to a setup if you can. From my experience, 9/10 mandolins under the £500 mark play like absolute dogshit and tangibly hinder your playing.
I love playing mandolin, it makes an excellent travelling companion too- hand luggage on a plane no bother.
Wisdom for the Thile recommendation. He's a genius. I love the two D'addario ads he did.
My mando won't fit in the standard luggage restrictions.
You could call (or check online) most airlines are surprisingly cool about it.
I think easyjet allow cases up to 30*30*120 which my case just about snuck under. The stewardess put it in a wee cupboard rather than the overhead last time too!
