What's Hot

So, I need a 50 meter long extension cable that can go outside. Its for going from my kitchen window (where theres a socket) to my garden shed so I can test my amp at mind buggering volumes..

Any thoughts on where to get one? Links would be very helpful!

There are plenty of 50m extension reels on Amazon, or you'll find them in B&Q etc
Better to get a qualified sparky to lay some armoured cable for you and do the job properly though I would have thought.

And connected so that it doesn't turn the house off when you blow something up.

I'm absolutely unqualified, and possibly breaking rule #1. The thing is though, is that you haven't really specified whether or not you're looking for something permanent or something that you can just roll out for an hour on a clear, dry day and blast your amp up in the shed for a bit, then roll it back up and stow it away.

If you're looking for permanent, then a qualified sparky will be able to fit up a safe power supply to your shed. If you're looking for non-permanent then any decent 50m extension will do, surely?

Finally! A kinda sensible reply.. i think the clue is in the title...

Essentially, when i can, roll out a cable on a dry day but potentially as theres alot of grass between shed and house, something that would be ok to use in moist conditions.

To do a perm job from my house to my garage is around £500+ so to the shed would be more than I can afford.

Dude,,,just get any 50m extension lead and roll it ALL out...or get 50m of this and stick a plug and socket on it, do have an RCD at the mains end?

Any ready-made commercial 50m extension cable will by definition pass current electrical safety regs, so is safe to use.

No need to worry about moisture on the cable, it's only the ends that matter - the middle of the cable could be under water and it would make no difference. If your house doesn't have a modern distribution box with earth-leak trip switches then it's probably worth using a plug-in RCD unit (at the house end), but if it does then there's no need.

if it's for a permanent connection you will need armored cable!

At 50m you may well get some voltage drop using standard 2.5 twin and earth -it probably won't be enough to really affect a guitar amp but bare it in mind…..ideally cable should be thicker
