  In my opinion, the 7th July "Sidemen" documentary struck an unhappy compromise between broad popularity and the sort of nitty gritty detailed information that might interest musicians.
  
  The general tone was, "we work(ed) with famous artistes" but it rarely delved very deeply into what they actually contributed to specific recordings.
  
  Overall, the documentary only served to underline the fact that the average punter cares not one jot for the backing musicians hired by their favourite performers. Indeed, why should they? The fantasy revolves around the image and the songs. Why spoil that by demonstrating that it is a job of work?
