Does a Fender Japanese strat neck fit a USA body?

I have a really heavy fender strat that I'm wanting to change the body on, but it's Japanese and most replacement bodies seem to be USA spec.
Is there any reason it wouldn't fit? I think it's a 1987 MIJ 62 strat reissue.

Possiblywont fit  - some Japanese neck pockets are wider than the USA standard -my HRR strat was, so check the neck width at the pocket first.
    Karma......

This. Try and get one with a pocket as close to yours as you can. If anything, a little smaller as you can then adapt. Its easier to take wood off than put it back on.

I would have to disagree with that. Tightening up a too-large pocket by gluing a veneer to the side wall is *far* easier than routing it bigger if the neck won't go in.

Remember that in the 70s, they made them like that on purpose but didn't bother with the veneer ;).

Seriously? Gluing a small piece of wood veneer to the side wall is harder than routing it larger?

    Sorry, but you're wrong.

Is rather not risk gluing myself to a guitar body. There's some terrible statistics about that.

Alan Partridge reference. Doesn't really come across well in this format.
