I thought the solo was good but his guitar tone was awful - way too fizzy for my taste.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying it's terrible and I appreciate a good blues solo as much as the next guy. I just don't see where you got "beautiful" (just a chain of generic blues licks with some bum notes), "melodic" (there's no melody to speak of) or "soulful" (unless you're talking about the gurn?) from

I agree with all the comments above.

Compare with, for example, Brian Robertson's solo on "I'm still in love with you" from Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous album. Great tone, great playing, great feel.

What do you expect, he don't believe in love, so he ain't going to do the blues.

Personally I think this is up there for melody and 'soul' on a guitar live performance

I think the thread title and your comment was slightly provocative, hence the general reaction.

Must admit though, it made me think about how few guitarists can really hold your attention with this sort of solo - it's a lot harder than you would think. That's why guys like Gilmour, Santana, possibly Gary Moore, are out on their own.

I would agree with you 100% if I said "This IS...!" But I was merely posing the question "Is this..?"

I was looking for opinion and knowledge and I think I have got a bit of both. I don't mind being chopped down its all part of it. If it was a mutual appreciation forum we wouldn't be here

He’s very much a fuzz pedal user and not chasing that modern blues must be posh guitar into posh valve amp tone that annoys the crap out of me ( Simon McBoringBride and all those). Very much in the vein of stuff like Buddy Guy’s sound from the seventies.
