  Most envelope filters are very ‘abrupt’ in the way they track playing dynamics. John Martyn used to use a Mutron III after a Big Muff, which meant the filter open and closed much more slowly, as the fuzz greatly reduced the dynamics going in to the front end of it.
  
  An auto wah type pedal may be exactly what you need - but the trick could well be how you combine it with other pedals.

  I have the Maxon and the Snow White both sound great but different.
  The Mad P has more options and can be discreet.
