Another good storyline with great characters is Bolt. It's a great road trip film, and I have to admit that I felt rather emotional at the ending with the whole rescue scene.

    The Sloth scene is great.
And the set piece, chase scene through the tiny animals' quarter was genius

Wall-E is probably my favourite, but stick with Pixar and you wont go far wrong. Dreamworks films are not made to the same standard in my opinion.

these brilliantly animated films, either 'grab' me in the first 10-15 minutes or leave me cold i'm afraid. i actually turned off 'zootopia' after about 40 minutes, same with 'wreck it ralph', and i agree with the comment above about the 'toy story' series, watched all three but i think they are vastly over-rated.Also turned off 'cars' after about 30 minutes.

I came back after I realised I'd failed to mention Megamind, what an excellent, fun and underrated movie!

Anything Pixar does is gold to me

Even there bad stuff (Good Dinosaur, Cars 2 etc...) is still record breaking in terms of rendering techniques

They satisfy both the nerd and child in me

    Pretty good soundtrack too.

For a while it was my four year old daughter’s favourite film.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

    Just seen two more films:

Isle of dogs I enjoyed very much. It's quite a weird film, as you'd expect from Wes Anderson. I thought that he captured 'dogness' very well with the characters, where most voice over animal stuff they just seem to think like humans.

Also saw Coco - the quality of the animation was superb, the story was reasonably good, but I felt really quite emotional by the end scene - which I won't give away.

    So, I've seen:

    Spirited Away
    Princess Mononoke
    Howl's Moving Castle
    Kiki's Delivery Service
    My Neighbour Totoro

Which others should I make a point of setting the box for?

For me the best two are Spirited Away and Howl's moving castle by a long shot. I also like Ponyo a lot but it's for a younger audience I would say. Castle in the sky is another good one and also Nausicaa has been my brothers fave for many years (technically not Ghibli, made by the same guy before he created the studio name). The cat returns I like a lot, although it isn't impressive like Spirited or Howl.

The one I didn't like was Princess Kaguya

Good call, I was about to say Castle in the Skt and Nausicaa too. The girl who leapt through time is good too.

Grave of the Fireflies is a remarkable Ghibli film, but one that's hard to watch and one you're unlikely to watch twice - I had it on DVD for years before I plucked up the courage to watch it.

Poro Rosso is good, as is The Wind Rises.

Other animation that I like includes Metropolis, Rango and The Triplets Of Belleville.
