Normally unless its an absolute steal or something impossible to find otherwise its not worth while.
The UK carrier probably does have some admin cost to cover in getting the customs processing done - and other countries have different thresholds etc., so it's not surprising that they split it between sender and receiver. Doesn't mean the charges are reasonable though as it's all just electronic transactions (apart from the odd 1 in 1000 where they get the sniffer dogs to check your fuzzbox). If you get something sent with UPS, their tracking often shows your package clearing customs before it's physically in the country.
Actually less than £135 and no duty, I'm assuming its considerably more than this if the OP is considering there may be a saving buying from the other side of the world.
Also worth remembering that the handling fee charged is for completing all the HMRC paperwork associated with the VAT payment and duty that otherwise you would have to deal with personally - it's not just the arbitrary surcharge that it may appear if you don't understand the process.
Working for a Government so having first hand experience of how bureaucratic and red tape obsessed these organisations are, I would much rather pay somebody a few quid to deal with the buggers for me. :-)
