The main band were a Killers tribute, with guitar, bass drums, 3 vox, sample trigger and 4 keyboards the soundguy disappeared 2 minutes after they came on, all you could hear were drums and main vocals
I think the problem is that all these modelers and profilers are all trying their hardest to replicate the sound of actual valve amps. So by definition they are a copy, and not the real thing.
I recon if someone just come up with a digital amp that sounded awesome in its own right and wasn't trying to be something else, it would make the mental side of making the switch a lot easier.
It sounds slightly better through a cab in the room but when you think about the faff of effects in 4cm, the limited switching options, the need for a noise gate, the extra weight, it only sounded good at high volume and the unpredictable nature of micing it up it just seems pointless.
It does sound amazing when you crank it through a good cab but every gig I do the guitar goes through the PA anyway so you get zero advantage apart from maybe the feel for yourself onstage.

Metal bands are more likely to use a Kemper or helix than lighter rock and pop bands in my experience but still less than 50%.
At home I suspect the modellers are more common than real amps as it’s so easy and cheap to get a good sound now - my thr is due a replacement and I’m only looking at modelling combos.
Ultimately, I only use the amp (or my new X88R clone) when I fancy a different flavour, for me there's no practical or quality difference between that and the Helix's modelling into a power amp. There's obviously a noticeable difference in the experience when going direct because I'm reliant on monitors, but in some ways that actually makes life better for me (because I can actually hear myself properly).
Once memory became cheap enough to run several layers of velocity sensitivity they respond to player input just like the real thing.
Guitars and amps are far more complex and interactive.
