So I love the sound of telecasters, and the look of Jazzmasters ... I recently picked up a Jazzmaster in a trade and just didn't bond with the sound. Plus I hated the weird Danelectro style bridge. I was toying with the idea of swapping it for a tele, then I thought, why not make something a bit different. Hence here we have my finished Jazzcaster.
Had to cut myself a new pickguard from a blank, which is nowhere near as easy as I thought it would be ... nothing ever is though I guess! Picked up a couple of scratches when cutting it - why is the most common pickguard material also the most easily scratched material known to man? Anyway, that aside I think it's come out pretty nicely.
Hardware and pickups are Wilkinson - hard to beat at the price point. Compensated Wilkinson bridge with brass saddles. Vintage voiced alnico bridge pickup with tons of twang and a really punchy p90 neck. Makes a great combination, the middle switch position is particularly good.
Here's a before pic:
And here's how she looks now ...
