@ChrisMusic There's a new Jan Akkerman signature guitar from Dutch company Brandin guitars and a new amp from British builder Albion Amps. The guitar is based on the shape and profile of a Les Paul Personal so it's a bit bigger than a normal Les Paul - it's equipped with a PAF humbucker at the bridge and a TV Jones Filter'Tron in the neck position and is available in a range of finishes.

I've never wanted signature gear before, but there's always a first time ...
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

Now, apart from it being sunburst that looks great.

    Interesting guitar!

He was in the classic 70's band Focus.

One of the few songs I ever learned was Sylvia

That's Hocus Pocus by Focus BTW. IIRC the live version is about twice as quick.

Fast forward to 29:00 and see the original Les Paul Personal on which the signature guitar is based. Jan was voted best guitarist in the world in the 1973 Melody Maker poll beating Clapton, Page and Blackmore. His band Focus saved the OGWT [Bob Harris quote] which BBC executives were thinking of terminating. After one appearance by Focus the band ended up with two singles and two albums in the charts which proved people were watching the show as the band hadn't been played on UK radio.

I've played this guitar as well .. :-)

And this is what the guitar looked like in the early 1970s with all the electronics ...

So that isn't based on his Framus sig?

No ... it's based on his Gibson Les Paul Personal ... this is a Framus Jan Akkerman .. Les Paul shape but deeper and an f-hole ..

you lot should've picked this classic clip - shows all the detail...

This is a fine lesson in letting the volume do the work for you - his picking is of the 'Delfest' (that's a place in Dutchland too little pun for you all!!) of touches allowing quick but precise movement...

I didn't think the LP had the Gretsch pickup in that clip. No matter - Jan is the master of pick control and volume swells. He's also a really nice guy... I once came back from lunch to find him sat in my chair - I didn't recognise him at first but when he got up to relinquish the seat and he towered over me and said "sorry" with a Dutch accent, the penny dropped!!

Technically, it is mandatory for me to post this energetic US TV performance of Hocus Pocus right now   ;)

The original incarnation of his LP Personal with the replaced pickups (not the Gretsch one tho) and new maple top.  Wicked playing too, wow !    :)

5 million views on YT can't all be wrong - enjoy
FWIW the song was also recently used for a Nike advert.

Some good stuf and brings back happy memories.

Thijs van Leer always cracks me up and makes me smile, as does Jan's playing.

Thijs van Leer is strutting his stuff with the Thomas Blug band as well these days and well worth checking out with two excellent virtuosos.

@ChrisMusic Technically it's incarnation number three ... [geek mode] .. the first one is above [standard with all the electronics]. The second is below minus the electronics, new top but original pickups ...

The band's actually playing hocus pocus [hence the head banging] at Bournemouth Polytechnic I think ...
